How Does it Work?

MBIR is an easy-to-use, intention-based technique that blends mindfulness with energy therapy to gently support the mind and body’s natural ability to self-heal. It involves light tapping on a calming point on the chest (the thymus area) while staying present with a feeling, thought, or physical sensation.

 

Because MBIR is rooted in mindfulness, it invites you into the present moment. There’s no need to revisit or retell your story in detail. Instead, this approach allows you to become the gentle observer of your inner world, creating space for new perspectives and emotional release without overwhelm.

 

It works on many levels at once - supporting your breathing, imagery, cognitions, behaviours, and emotions - yet always in a calm and measured way. By engaging both the mind and body, MBIR helps shift you out of a fight–flight–freeze response and into a more regulated, balanced state. Over time, this process can help rewire deep emotional patterns, fostering greater peace, clarity, and emotional freedom.

What to Expect in a Session

An MBIR session is calming, quiet, and completely guided. You’ll remain fully clothed, either seated or lying down, and in a safe, relaxed environment.

Your practitioner will gently support you in becoming mindfully aware of a feeling, sensation, or thought - without judgment - while you lightly tap on a specific point on your chest. Once your attention is focused on what you’re feeling or experiencing, you’ll be invited to imagine breathing this energy outside of you and simply observing it with gentle curiosity, rather than getting caught up in it.

This process encourages your body to release stored emotion in a measured, safe way, while soothing your nervous system. The combination of mindful awareness and calming touch helps you shift into a more regulated state, supporting both emotional release and inner ease.
